TEAM DEFENSE CHECKLIST
As coaches we don't want our players exposed or surprised by situations in a game that they haven't experienced or practiced beforehand. Here is a team defense checklist that will help prepare your squad to recognize certain game situations and enable them to execute more confidently and successfully:
DEFENSE:
1. ___ BASIC BUNT DEFENSE WITH RUNNER ON 1ST.
• 1B & 3B charge - P fields ball – 2B covers 1B - catcher covers 3B – 3B covers home
• 1B & 3B charge – C fields ball – 2B covers 1B – P covers home – 3B returns to cover 3B
• 1B & 3B charge – 3B fields ball – 2B covers 1B – C covers 3B – P covers home
• Batter misses bunt attempt – C picks runner off 1B
2. ___ BUNT DEFENSE WITH WINNING RUN ON 2B, FIRST BASE OPEN – NO OUTS
• 3B stays home – P fields ball down 3B side & throws to 3B
• 3B stays home – C fields ball & throws to 3B
• 3B stays home – 1B fields ball on right side & throws to 3B
• 1B & 3B charges – SS covers 3B – P fields ball & throws to SS covering 3B
• 1B & 3B charges – SS covers 3B – C fields ball & throws to SS covering 3B
• 1B & 3B charges – SS covers 3B – 1B fields ball & throws to SS covering 3B
• 1B & 3B charges – SS covers 3B – 3B fields ball & throws to SS covering 3B
